In the field of structural materials, steel continues to dominate due to its excellent balance of strength, versatility, and cost efficiency. However, conventional carbon steels are prone to corrosion when exposed to outdoor environments, requiring protective coatings or regular maintenance. To address this challenge, weathering steels, also known as atmospheric corrosion-resistant steels, were developed.

 

Among the Chinese GB/T standards, Q355NH weathering steel has emerged as a widely used material, appreciated for its durability, environmental adaptability, and economic benefits. It is part of the Q-NH series (Q235NH, Q295NH, Q355NH, etc.) designed for use in bridges, construction, and other applications where exposure to the atmosphere is inevitable.

 

Q355NH combines the mechanical strength of medium-strength structural steel with enhanced corrosion resistance derived from alloying elements such as copper, chromium, and nickel. It develops a protective rust-like patina over time, which significantly reduces further degradation.
