Performance Requirements for Pipeline Steels

high strength

Pipeline steel strength indicators are mainly tensile strength and yield strength. In the requirements of high strength at the same time, the pipeline steel yield strength ratio (yield strength and tensile strength ratio) also puts forward the requirements, generally required in the range of 0.85 ~ 0.93.

High impact toughness

Pipeline steel requires that the material should have sufficiently high impact toughness (crack initiation and crack stopping toughness). For the parent material, when the toughness value of the material meets the requirements for crack stopping, its toughness can also generally meet the requirements for preventing crack initiation.

Low brittle transition temperature

Harsh geographical and climatic conditions require that pipeline steels should have a sufficiently low tough-brittle transition temperature. General specifications require that the fracture shear area of a specimen at the lowest operating temperature F be not less than 85%.

Corrosion cracking resistance

Pipeline steels should have excellent resistance to hydrogen-induced cracking (HIC) and sulfide stress corrosion cracking (SSCC).

 

Basic process for the production of pipeline steel
 

The basic process of domestic pipeline steel production are: conventional semi-continuous hot rolling, CSP continuous casting and rolling, plate unit, furnace coil unit.

Semi-continuous rolling mill:

In a semi-continuous mill, the hot rolling experienced by the strip in the finishing passes is substantially constant from one end of the strip to the other. In the finishing mill to between the time is usually less than 3s.

CSP continuous casting and rolling:

In the CSP production line containing niobium, vanadium, titanium composite microalloyed low carbon manganese steel, the use of suitable controlled rolling and cooling and coiling process, can ensure that the mechanical properties and microstructure of the steel in line with the requirements of the technical aspects of the modern X60 pipeline steel, in line with the new trend of the development of modern pipeline steel. The process is characterized by continuous casting of thin slabs with central segregation, eliminating the central segregation of continuous casting of thin slabs is a key technical issue to further improve the quality of pipeline steel.

 

 

Medium Thickness Plate Unit:

It mainly produces wide and thick plates for the production of LSAW pipes, which are of reliable quality and widely used in the main lines for high-pressure transportation of oil and gas.

 

Furnace Rolling Mill:

Two hot coil rolling mills are installed on conveyor lines on either side of the finishing mill. The output rolls usually include a laminar flow cooling system and a coiling station. In the furnace coil mill, the strip throughout the length of the thermo-mechanical history of the obvious changes, especially in the production of micro-alloyed steel, will strongly affect the degree of recrystallization produced in the finishing mill, grain growth and precipitation, and lead to the entire length of the strip of the ultimate microstructure and properties of the drastic changes. The process is characterized by relatively low investment costs.
