Wear is a major cost factor inmany special vehicle applications:in steel and cement plants aswell as in mining, earth-movingand aqricultural machinery.These applications demand hard,tough steels: XAR® special structuralsteels from thyssenkrupp.XARstands for eXtra Abrasion Resistant.XAR® steels withstand extreme wearand tear thanks to their chemicalcomposition and heat treatment.

GNEE STEEL's XAR® steels are designed to simplify cutting and welding processes while offering excellent cold forming properties with tight bending radii. For example, MAG welding can be performed without preheating for XAR® 400 plates up to 20 mm thick (40 mm combined thickness) and for XAR® 450 plates up to 15 mm thick (30 mm combined thickness). Additionally, 10 mm thick XAR® 400 plates can be bent with a minimum radius of r/t ≥ 4.0, while 10 mm thick XAR® 450 plates can be bent with a radius of r/t ≥ 5.0.

Different Xar Grades For Different Applications
- XAR 400 steel plate: this grade is the most commonly used steel grade with normal abrasion resistant level, it has extraordinary cold formability and weldablity, its abrasion resistant property doesn’t get weekend when the temperature is below 400℃.
- XAR 450 steel plate: this grade is a upgraded version of XAR400 with abrasion resistant characteristic improved, the working temperature remains below 400℃.
- XAR 500 steel plate: maintains formable and weldable characteristics, with element B added, it has higher level of wear resistance for conveyors, crushers, lorries, etc. It shall be delivered as water quenched.
- XAR 550 and XAR 600 steel plate: cold forming is not allowed for the high hardness, with Ni element added, it is delivered as water quenched or soft-annealed steel.
The standard wear-resistant steel grade is XAR 400, which can increase productservice life to five times that of conventionalstructural steel. XAR 400 combines highwear resistance with good cold form abilityand weldability. lt is the most frequently used wear-resistant steel woridwide formany different applications. A heat-resistant XAR 400 W variant is also available wherehardness and wear resistance at higher temperatures up to 400°C are required,for instance in cement works.
Some applications are only subject to lowor moderate wear. XAR 300 was developed for these applications. This steel is produced via normalizing rolling without any heat treatment and therefore has a very good price/performance ratio, combined withexcellent surface quality.
XAR450 is the best choice where require-ments call for higher wear resistance com-bined with virtually the same processing characteristics as the standard XAR 400 grade. XAR 450 is expected to increasingly replace the standard XAR" 400 steel gradein the future.
XAR 500 steel, which is formable and weldable, is available for even higher abrasive wear. For extreme abrasive wear applications (without impulsive load) GNEE STEEL offers its XAR600 grade. Due to its exceptional hardness,cold-forming of this steel is not recom-mended.
For applications placing increased tough-ness requirements on the wear plate,XAR HT is the right choice with its com-bination of wear resistance and extremelyhigh notch impact strength.
