GB/T Q415NH Weathering Steel

 

 

 

 

GB/T Q415NH weathering steel is a high-strength, low-alloy structural steel designed to provide superior resistance against atmospheric corrosion. It is part of the GB/T 4171 standard in China, which specifies several grades of weather-resistant steels commonly used in bridges, construction, containers, and other outdoor applications. Compared with traditional carbon steel, Q415NH not only offers greater strength but also a longer service life with less maintenance.

The name "NH" means "resistance to atmospheric corrosion" (in Chinese: 耐候). Q415NH contains small but effective amounts of alloying elements such as copper (Cu), chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), and phosphorus (P). When exposed to the atmosphere, these elements react with oxygen and moisture to form a stable oxide layer, often called a protective rust film.

This rust layer tightly adheres to the steel surface, preventing further penetration of oxygen and water. Over time, it becomes denser and more protective, significantly slowing down the corrosion rate compared to ordinary steel.
