EH40 is a high-strength hull structural steel primarily used in critical components of ships and offshore engineering requiring exceptional strength and toughness. In its designation:

E denotes high strength (yield strength ≥420MPa)

H indicates Quenched and Tempered (Q&T) treatment

40 represents the minimum yield strength of 420MPa (40ksi).
Through optimized alloy design and heat treatment, EH40 combines ultra-high strength, superior low-temperature toughness, and fatigue resistance.
