Abrasion Resistant Steel Plate

Abrasion-resistant steel plate (AR plate) is a high-carbon alloy steel that is specifically designed to withstand abrasion, impact, and wear. The key difference between AR steel and regular structural steel is the addition of carbon and other alloys, which significantly increase the hardness of the steel, making it much tougher.

Product Introduction

Gnee Steel (Tianjin) Co., Ltd. is one of the most professional abrasion resistant steel plate manufacturers and suppliers in China. Welcome to wholesale customized abrasion resistant steel plate at competitive price from our factory. Good service and quality products are available.

In construction and fabrication, the grade and composition of the steel plate materials used make a huge impact on the final product. Abrasion resistant steel plate is a common steel plate that boasts a harder, tougher quality that lasts about four times longer than ordinary high-strength structural steel plate.

When it comes to tough, heavy-duty applications in industries such as mining, construction, and material handling, choosing the right steel plate is crucial for ensuring long-term performance and reduced maintenance. Abrasion-resistant steel plates are engineered specifically to resist wear and tear, offering unmatched durability and toughness. With hardness levels that are several times greater than conventional structural steel, abrasion-resistant (AR) steel is designed to perform in environments where high impact and abrasive forces are frequent.

What is Abrasion Resistant Steel Plate?

Abrasion-resistant steel plate (AR plate) is a high-carbon alloy steel that is specifically designed to withstand abrasion, impact, and wear. The key difference between AR steel and regular structural steel is the addition of carbon and other alloys, which significantly increase the hardness of the steel, making it much tougher.

Carbon: The main alloy that increases the steel's hardness. More carbon increases the hardness but reduces the toughness, making it more prone to cracking under high stress.

Other Alloys: In addition to carbon, alloys like manganese, chromium, and nickel are often added to further enhance properties like corrosion resistance, impact strength, and wear resistance.

Because of its hardness, AR steel is perfect for applications where abrasion and wear are the primary sources of failure. However, it is not suitable for structural applications such as beams or supports in bridges and buildings, where high tensile strength is more critical.

Grades of Abrasion Resistant Steel Plate

Abrasion-resistant steel plates come in various grades, each offering different levels of hardness and performance to suit different applications. The numbers in AR steel grades refer to the Brinell Hardness (HBW), which measures the hardness of the steel plate.

  • AR400: A moderate-grade abrasion-resistant steel with 400 HBW hardness, AR400 is a great option for applications that require a balance between wear resistance and formability. It is commonly used in construction equipment, dump bodies, and chutes.
  • AR450: With 450 HBW hardness, AR450 offers improved abrasion resistance compared to AR400 while maintaining excellent weldability and bending properties. It is often used in mining equipment, excavator buckets, and agricultural machinery.
  • AR500: With a 500 HBW hardness, AR500 is a high-performance abrasion-resistant steel plate that excels in extremely abrasive environments. It is ideal for high-impact applications such as quarrying, mining, and heavy-duty construction machinery.
  • AR600 and beyond: For the toughest applications, AR600 steel plates are available, offering even higher hardness levels for extreme abrasion resistance. These are suitable for equipment exposed to the harshest conditions, including drill bits, grates, and wear liners.

Each grade provides specific advantages depending on the level of wear and tear the steel will be subjected to in your application.
