GB/T Q500NH Weathering Steel

 

 

 

 

GB/T Q500NH is a high-strength, low-alloy weathering steel developed to meet the growing demand for long-lasting outdoor structural materials. As a member of the Chinese GB/T standard family of atmospheric corrosion-resistant steels, Q500NH is engineered to resist corrosion naturally while providing a yield strength of around 500 MPa. This combination of durability and strength makes it an excellent choice for industrial construction, bridges, towers, and other structures exposed to the elements.

Unlike ordinary carbon steel, which quickly develops flaky rust when exposed to moisture and air, Q500NH forms a dense, protective layer of rust called a patina. This patina adheres tightly to the steel surface and acts as a barrier, slowing further corrosion to a minimal rate. The protective layer forms naturally over time, particularly under alternating wet and dry conditions, which makes Q500NH ideal for open-air projects where maintenance access is difficult or costly.
