A588GrB steel plate Corrosion resistance and protection characteristics
ASTM A588 Grade B corten weathering steel has excellent corrosion resistance and protective properties, mainly due to its weathering steel layer.
1. Corrosion resistance:
The addition of alloying elements, especially copper (Cu), chromium (Cr) and nickel (Ni), to ASTM A588 Grade B atmospheric steel helps to form a dense weathering steel layer.
The weathering steel layer is able to stably react with oxygen, humidity and atmospheric chemicals, thereby reducing the corrosion rate of the steel. This weathering steel layer gives ASTM A588 Grade B corten sheet excellent corrosion resistance in common atmospheric environments.
2. Protective properties:
The weathering steel layer has self-healing properties. When the surface of ASTM A588 Grade B corten steel material is damaged, such as scratches or wear, the weathering steel layer will form a new oxide layer on its own to protect the steel from further corrosion.
The weathering steel layer slows down the penetration of oxygen and water, thereby reducing the corrosion rate. The weathering steel layer also resists erosion and corrosion from acid rain, salt spray and other atmospheric pollutants.
The corrosion resistance and protective properties of ASTM A588 Grade B corten steel metal make it an ideal material for structures and equipment used outdoors or in exposed environments. However, specific environmental conditions and usage may have an impact on its performance.
