Products Description
Corten plate is a weather resistant steel created by alloying copper, chromium and nickel. In addition to this, Corten A has added phosphorous which makes the material best suited for gas flue applications and for aesthetic facias The material is not recommended in heavy load bearing applications - in this case Corten B or S355J2W should be considered.
The top layer of the material reacts with atmospheric elements to form a rust coloured protective layer which not only makes the steel virtually maintenance free but also provides a pleasing and consistent finish.
Corten steel plate (called weather resistant steel plate ) was used in different weather. It has good anti rust
protection and welding ability and is usedin shipping container, support frame of outside building etc.
Remarkably enhances the anticorrosive performance of the structural element, lengthens the structural
element service life, uses in manufacturing each kind of structural element which was used under the
atmospheric envirenment and the caustic gas, the liquid envirenment.

Corten steel plate
1. Weather resistant structural steel. The anticorrosive properties of weather resistant steel are better than those of other structural steels in many applications. The steel is self-protecting: The rust layer on the surface becomes a tight oxide layer that slows down the progress of corrosion. The steel is an economical, long-lasting and fully recyclable material.
2. Corrosion resistant steel - Weathering Steel
Weathering steel is a copper chromium alloy which is 'self-healing'. The untreated steel reacts to chemicals in the atmosphere as part of the oxidation process and generates its own protective layer of rust. This layer (or patina) prevents the steel from further deterioration and replenishes itself over time.
3. Atmospheric corrosion resistant HSLA structural quality steel is stronger & tougher than carbon steel, is ductile, highly formable & weldable.
HSLA structural steel features atmospheric corrosion resistance, which is crucial in structural applications.
Atmospheric corrosion resistant steel is intended primarily for use in structural members, where savings in weight (mass) and added durability matter.
Plate is used in truck frames, brackets, crane booms, rail cars and other comparable applications.
FAQ
Q: What is the difference between ASTM A588 and A606?
A: The difference in our products is: A606-4 is considered weathering steel sheet with thicknesses beginning at 22 Gauge and thicker available up to 3/16". We stock A606-4 in flat sheets, coil, and panels. A588 is available in steel plate and starts at 3/16" thickness and increases up to 5" thickness.
Q: What is the ASTM standard for corten steel?
A: The ASTM specifications are A588, A242, A606-4, A847, A871-65 and A709-50W. The primary trademarked product is Cor-ten®. The selection of a particular ASTM weathering steel specification is dependent on the type of product desired. ASTM A588 covers structural shapes, plate, and bar.
Q: What is the difference between A588 and A242?
A: A242 (Corten A): Specifies a minimum tensile strength of 63 ksi (435 MPa) for Grades 1 & 3, and 70 ksi (485 MPa) for Grade K (a newer, stronger variant). A588 (Corten B): Specifies a minimum tensile strength of 70 ksi (485 MPa) for all grades. This is the most significant mechanical difference.
Q: What is ASTM A588 equivalent to?
A: The ASTM A588 grade A plate is equivalent to Corten A steel plate. ASTM A242 plate is equivalent to Corten B. Compared with common low alloy high strength steel such as A572 Grade 50, ASTM A588 and ASTM A242 has advantages of weathering resistant performances.
Q: What is ASTM A606 material?
A: ASTM A606-4 covers steel sheet and coil. It's a steel alloy that's made up of copper, chromium, nickel, and other elements that give it corrosion resistance properties.
Q: What is the yield strength of ASTM A242?
A: ASTM A242 has a 50ksi minimum yield strength and a 70ksi minimum tensile strength.
