1. Introduction to Weathering Steel Materials
Weathering steel, also known as atmospheric corrosion-resistant steel, originated from North American steel and is a low-alloy steel series between ordinary steel and stainless steel. Adding copper, carbon steel, nickel, weathering elements, high toughness steel, plastic ductility, formability, corrosion, welding and cutting, wear, temperature and other properties in small amounts; weathering is 2-8 times that of carbon steel, and its coating performance is 1.5-10 times. Moreover, it has rust resistance, giving components corrosion resistance, extended lifespan, reduced thickness and consumption, and energy saving.
Weathering principle: After adding weathering elements such as phosphorus, copper, chromium, and nickel to steel, a dense, highly adhesive oxide layer is formed between the rust layer and the substrate. This special dense oxide layer has stable and uniform natural rust-red characteristics, which can prevent oxygen and water in the atmosphere from penetrating the substrate, protect the substrate under the rust layer, and slow down its corrosion rate.
