Weather-resistant structural steel, that is, atmospheric corrosion resistant steel, belongs to low-alloy high-strength structural steel, and is divided into high-weather-resistant structural steel and weather-resistant steel for welding structure according to its main characteristics
The use of high weather resistance structural steel due to its atmospheric corrosion resistance than welded structural weathering steel is better, mainly used for vehicles, containers, buildings, towers and other structures with bolting, riveting and welding of structural parts. When welding structural parts, the thickness of the steel should not be greater than 16mm. The welding performance of weather-resistant steel for welding structure is better than that of high-weather-resistant structural steel, which is mainly used for welded structural parts for Bridges, buildings and other structures.

FAQ
Is corten steel hard to weld?
Despite its benefits, welding corten steel comes with some challenges: Heat-induced distortion or cracking. Loss of corrosion resistance near the heat-affected zone. Difficulty in matching the patina formation post-weld.
Does corten steel stop rusting?
No, it does not. Corten steel is allowed to rust in order to form the protective patina coating. While this results in a much lower corrosion rate compared to other steels, it does NOT mean corten steel is rust proof.
Is corten steel easy to bend?
Straight corten steel: This is the most flexible variant. It is flat and not yet processed, so you can easily bend it.
Does steel get rust?
Because steel is a mixture of iron and carbon, it will definitely rust. What differentiates steel and stainless steel is the element chromium - chromium forms a shield against rusting, which makes stainless steel more corrosion-resistant.
How long will 3mm corten steel last?
So, based on this information, adding 1mm of thickness should cover any corrosion loss over a 40- year period in a C2-C4 environment. For example, you can expect one of our 3mm thick Corten Planters to be approximately 2mm thick after 40 years of weathering from both sides.
