FAQ
Does corten steel leave rust stains?
Yes, during the rusting process, it's normal for runoff to stain nearby surfaces. We recommend washing affected areas 1-2 times a month with a chemical rust remover for concrete. The runoff will end once the Corten Steel weathering process has finished and your planter or edging is fully rusted.
What is an alternative to corten steel?
Mild Steel does not form a protective layer but aesthetically is very similar to Corten Steel. Corten starts to develop its trademark Patina quicker than Mild Steel. Mild Steel is a more cost-effective alternative to Corten for those budget-conscious gardeners.
What is the difference between galvanised steel and corten steel?
It's easy to tell the difference between Corten steel and galvanised steel simply by looking at them. Galvanised steel is a dull, mainly matt grey and sometimes bears a mottled pattern on its surface. Corten, on the other hand, has a rust-coloured appearance.
Is corten steel hot rolled?
Corten sheet metal is made by a process called hot-rolled formed steel, which is a method of forming the steel at high temperatures. This allows the steel to maintain a higher level of ductility so that it can be formed into complex shapes.
Can you drill into corten steel?
Corten steel can be processed in various ways: grinding, drilling, sawing, powder coating, or laser cutting. If you want to drill in corten steel, you need to use the right drill and technique to safely create holes.
