What SMA 50 CP Is
SMA 50 CP is a Japanese weathering steel grade conforming to JIS G3114 ("Steel Resistant to Atmospheric Corrosion"). It is a weather-resistant structural steel: the copper-chromium alloying promotes a dense, self-protecting patina on atmospheric exposure, allowing unpainted use in structures where the rust-like surface is acceptable or desired.
Chemical composition of SMA 50 CP steel (in mass fraction):
| Element | Composition (wt %) |
|---|---|
| C | ≤0.18 |
| Si | 0.15-0.65 |
| Mn | ≤1.40 (supplier internal ranges such as 0.60-1.30 are control values) |
| P | ≤0.035 |
| S | ≤0.035 |
| Cu | 0.25-0.55 |
| Cr | 0.30-1.25 |
| Ni | ≤0.65 (where listed) |
Mechanical properties of SMA 50 CP steel (typical values, depending on specific production conditions):
- Yield strength: ≥ 345 MPa
- Tensile strength: ≥ 485 MPa
- Elongation: ≥ 20%
- Impact strength: ≥ 27 J at -20°C
It should be noted that these values may vary slightly depending on the specific production standard and batch of SMA 50 CP steel. When applying SMA 50 CP steel, always refer to the actual product specifications or technical documents to ensure accuracy and suitability.
Applications
Architecture, landscaping, gardening, cladding and urban infrastructure - bridges, facade systems, garden structures and hotel projects, where the evolving patina is part of the design language.

Supply Notes
Products are supplied to ASTM, EN and other international standards with third-party inspection supported; export covers more than 200 countries and regions.
