A606-4 is referred to as Corten® or weathering steel. It's a type of high strength low alloy steel that's known for its rusted appearance. A606-4 is popular because it can be made into metal roofing and siding panels. It starts out unrusted and will rust with exposure to the weather.
ASTM A606-4 covers steel sheet and coil. It's a steel alloy that's made up of copper, chromium, nickel, and other elements that give it corrosion resistance properties. It is also known for its high strength, making it an ideal choice for architectural and structural applications.

ASTM A606 Type 4 Equivalent Grades:
Weathering Steel, often referred to as COR-TEN or A606-4/A588, is a group of steel alloys which were developed to phase out the need for painting steel and to guarantee that the steel will form a stable rust-like presence if exposed to the elements for a prolonged period of time. The net effect is that the steel generates a beautiful patina coating which also guards against future corrosion.

A606-4 is not recommended for use in areas with exceedingly high rainfall or a high content of salt in the air, persistent fog, or extremely high humidity. You should not use A606-4 in coastal applications.
A606-4 will have rust runoff and this may cause rust stains
The ASTM A606-4 specification is the Standard Steel Specification for High-Strength, Low-Alloy, Hot Rolled, and Cold Rolled Sheet and Strip Steel with Improved Atmospheric Corrosion Resistance for use in structural and other applications. A606 Type 4 steel has a minimum corrosion-resistance index of 6.0 based upon ASTM Guide G101.
It is weldable, formable, punchable, and machinable using the proper techniques. ASTM A606-4 sheet is often used in the unpainted condition as the surface will develop a weathered orange-brown oxide that is resistant to corrosion. It is 20-30% lighter than carbon steel and is used for applications that require high strength-to-weight ratios.
