What is HSLA steel?

HSLA steel] is high strength low alloy steel (HSLA is the abbreviation of High Strength Low Alloys), is added in the melting process of rare metals, the strength can be up to twice the medium strength low alloy steel. Due to the non-heat treatment type, its carbon content is generally not higher than 0.15%; due to the low content of alloying elements, they can be solidly dissolved in the fat grain iron. If the commercial point of view, the alloy quantity is less, the cost is lower, in line with the principle of economic and practical. High-strength alloy steel notch toughness, volatility ratio, weldability and corrosion resistance is better than ordinary steel, and processing methods are no different from general carbon steel.

HSLA steel types] The ASTM grade numbers for high-strength low-alloy steel are as follows:
ASTM A533, Grade B, for use in nuclear power plant vapor vessels and other primary equipment;
ASTM A517, Grade F, used for bridge structures, etc.;
ASTM A543, Class 1, for pressure vessels, ships;
ASTM A542, Class 1, chemical pressure vessels;
ASTM A203, Grade D, for cryogenic equipment.
