Are S30403 and 304L the same material?
304L is the most common general-purpose stainless steel material on the market and is also a derivative of 304 stainless steel.
Although the name 304L is very common in China, the name "304L" is authentically American and is often expressed in ASTM standards. In addition, "SUS304L" is also another name for 304L, which is produced according to Japanese standards.
The new national standard of 304L in China is 022Cr19Ni10, the implementation standard is GB/T 20878-2007 "Stainless Steel and Heat-Resistant Steel Grades and Chemical Compositions", and the old national standard is 00Cr19Ni10. Its carbon content is extremely low, less than 0.03%, and its chromium and nickel content are the same as 304 stainless steel, 18 chromium and 8 nickel.
S30403 is a numerical code, which is a domestic name for stainless steel used in pressure-bearing equipment.
The new national standards of S30403 and 304L are the same, both are called 022Cr19Ni10.
The difference is that S30408 is produced in accordance with the standard GB/T 24511-2017 "Stainless steel and heat-resistant steel plates and strips for pressure-bearing equipment" and is mainly used in pressure vessels and other pressure-bearing equipment.
If a steel mill wants to produce S30403 stainless steel coils, it must obtain corresponding production certification. Only the 304L produced can be called S30403. Otherwise, it can only be called 304L or the corresponding stainless steel grade. Similarly, if the customer wants to buy S30403, we have to provide GB/T 24511-2017 standard stainless steel coils.
