Under normalized and tempered delivery condition, the steel maintains Charpy impact energy ≥27 J at -40°C over full plate thickness. It avoids brittle failure in LPG, small LNG tanks and offshore low-temperature separation equipment, which general structural steel cannot satisfy.
High yield strength for cost-saving design.
Its minimum yield strength of 345 MPa is higher than conventional boiler plate. Thinner wall design reduces equipment weight, cutting raw material, processing and ocean transportation costs for reactors, spherical tanks and refinery storage vessels.

1.Refinery reaction equipment.
ASTM A612/A612M is used for shells, heads and tube sheets of catalytic reforming, hydrotreating and alkylation reactors. This steel grade fits medium reactors for ethylene and alumina plants, as well as lined anti-corrosion reaction shells for non-extreme high-temperature media. Stable weldability of ASTM A612 supports batch manufacturing of petrochemical reaction devices.
2.Oil and gas separation equipment.
Shells and heads of three-phase separators, absorption towers, flash drums and buffer knockout drums are commonly fabricated from ASTM A612/A612M. Uniform mechanical properties help the equipment withstand cyclic working pressure in separation processes.
