ASTM A36

Q235B

Is Q235B the official equivalent grade of ASTM A36?
No, Q235B is not an officially certified equivalent to ASTM A36. While industry professionals commonly treat the Chinese standard Q235B as a close functional or practical substitute for the American ASTM A36 in general use, they belong to different governing bodies and have distinct mechanical requirements.

 

Which steel is better for bending processing, A36 or Q235B?
Q235B is slightly better for bending processing than ASTM A36. Q235B features a lower maximum carbon content (around 0.12–0.20%) and a slightly lower minimum yield strength (235 MPa) compared to A36 (250 MPa), giving Q235B marginally higher plasticity and ease of cold-forming.

 

Does A36 need impact toughness testing for cold outdoor construction?
