Recently, a batch of high yield structural steel S690Q undertaking the mission of upgrading Middle East infrastructure was shipped from GNEE Steel's Tianjin Port, destined for Dubai, the United Arab Emirates. This 200-ton batch of steel plates will be used for the bridge load-bearing structures of a large local transportation hub. The temperature difference between day and night in the Middle East desert often reaches 40℃, with severe wind and sand erosion, and S690Q perfectly adapts to this harsh environment through its special composition design.
Recently, GNEE Steel's Tianjin Port was bustling with activity as a batch of high yield structural steel S690Q shouldering the responsibility of upgrading Middle East infrastructure completed loading and officially set sail for Dubai, the United Arab Emirates. This 200-ton batch of steel plates will be mainly used for the construction of bridge load-bearing structures of Dubai's new transportation hub. As an important cross-border transportation node in the Middle East, the hub will significantly improve the logistics efficiency among Gulf countries after completion, and the stable performance of S690Q steel plates is the core support for ensuring the safety of this major project.

The temperature difference between day and night in the Middle East desert often reaches 40℃, with the maximum surface temperature exceeding 60℃ at noon. In addition, the saline-alkali components in the wind and sand will accelerate steel corrosion, putting extremely harsh requirements on the weather resistance and mechanical stability of construction steel. During the initial supplier selection for the project, the UAE client conducted comparative tests on products from 12 steel enterprises worldwide, and finally came into contact with GNEE Steel through recommendations from industry partners. To verify the reliability of the material, the client first customized a small batch of 50 tons of high yield structural steel S690Q for the construction and performance testing of sample beams.
In the one-month trial test, the S690Q steel plate delivered an excellent performance: the yield strength was stably maintained between 690-720MPa, and the tensile strength reached 810MPa, far exceeding the project design standards; after 2 million fatigue tests, the sample beam showed no obvious deformation or cracks; in the corrosion test simulating the desert salt spray environment, its surface corrosion rate was only 1/3 of the industry average. "We have never seen such balanced performance in similar steel products; this is exactly the product we need," the client's project director frankly stated when signing the test report. He immediately confirmed the subsequent order of 200 tons and signed a two-year strategic cooperation agreement with GNEE Steel.

To ensure the project progress, GNEE Steel established a special service team. The production department optimized the rolling process, reducing the original 25-day production cycle to 20 days; the technical team added a special corrosion-resistant coating treatment to the steel plate surface according to the characteristics of the desert environment; the quality inspection team implemented a full-process monitoring mechanism of "100% inspection per coil and sampling every 2 hours" to ensure that each batch of products meets the standards. Finally, this batch of steel plates was shipped 3 days ahead of the scheduled time. When the goods successfully arrived at Dubai Port, the client specially sent a thank-you email: "GNEE Steel has built the first line of defense for our project with professionalism and efficiency." This cooperation not only opened up the high-end infrastructure market in the Middle East for GNEE Steel but also established a high-quality image of Chinese steel enterprises.
To verify the reliability of the material, the UAE client first customized a small batch of 50 tons of high yield structural steel S690Q for the construction of sample beams. During the trial, its yield strength of ≥690MPa, tensile strength of 770-940MPa, and no deformation after 2 million fatigue tests dispelled the client's concerns. The client immediately confirmed the subsequent order of 200 tons and listed GNEE Steel as a core supplier.
"Infrastructure projects in the Middle East have extremely high requirements for steel stability, and S690Q performed perfectly in our salt spray corrosion test," the client's project director emphasized during acceptance. To ensure delivery, GNEE Steel optimized the rolling process, reducing the production cycle by 20%. The quality inspection team conducted sampling tests every 2 hours, and finally shipped the goods 3 days ahead of schedule, laying a solid foundation for cooperation with strength.

What is S690 grade steel?
S690 high yield & fine grain steel plate is a high strength, quenched and tempered fine-grain structural steel. Structural steel S690 is used in structures that must withstand very heavy loads. This grade is meant for structures where weight savings is important.
What is the difference between S690Q and S690QL?
S690Q: Minimum impact toughness tested at -20°C (30J average). → Typical Use: Cranes in temperate climates, quarry equipment. S690QL: Certified for -40°C and below (≥40J impact toughness). → Critical Use: Arctic pipelines, offshore platforms, mining vehicles in Siberia.
What is the equivalent of S690 steel?
Equivalent grades to S690QL steel include ASTM A709-100 (USA), E690T and S690T (France), TStE690V and DILLIMAX 690 (Germany), WELDOX 700 (Sweden), and E690 (ISO). These equivalents are specific to different regional standards and manufacturers, but they all share similar high-strength, quenched and tempered properties.
What is S690QL material?
S690QL is a high strength quenched and tempered steel grade that complies to steel specification EN 10025. The designation S690QL refers to a minimum yield strength of 690 MPa.
What is the effective use of high strength S690 steel in construction?
The high strength S690 steels have an excellent strength-to-self-weight ratio, and they are highly efficient to be used in heavily loaded structures. Typical applications include piles and columns in buildings and supporting members in bridges.
